Pan-European conference marks end to two-year project led by Wise Owls

A conference being held on the 17th and 18th of May, at Europe House, in London, marks the end of a two-year Pan-European project, which has led to the development of a series of guidebooks aimed at promoting the benefits of older workers.

The Pan-European Older Person’s Learning and Employment Network (PEOPLE) is funded by the European Leonardo Da Vinci fund and brought together organisations from five different countries; Czech Republic, France, Slovakia, Spain and Wise Owls from the UK as the lead body.

The project began in France with a discussion on how we as a project would work together, including the development of four guidebooks and  the PEOPLE website -  http://www.europeanpeoplenetwork.eu/

Communicating between organisations with different languages and cultures is always challenging but allowed for a better understanding of shared problems for older workers and different issues that are more significant in individual countries.

This process, allowed us to bring together the expertise that led us to the four guidebooks for the Unemployed, Employers, on Lobbying, and Training. These books, which are available on the PEOPLE website for download http://www.europeanpeoplenetwork.eu/index.php/welcome/viewpage/14
aim to promote awareness in different areas of society that ending ageism is not just the morally right thing to do, but it makes good business sense.

The conference in London will bring together these guidebooks, for presentation, which has Green MEP and member of the MEP group on age Jean Lambert speaking. In addition other experts from the DWP, and Age Platform Europe will be highlighting the future for campaigning for Age equality in this the year of Active Ageing.

Wise Owls have been at the forefront of supporting older workers and working with employers on changing attitudes to age before Age discrimination was officially recognised in this country, and continue to lead innovative ways highlight the message that age has nothing to do with being a good or a bad employee, and that it is not just about the over 50s but a fair and balanced workforce for all.
