Pre-budget snippet on older workers
Posted: 11 December 2009
Alistair Darling claimed the over-50's will continue to receive the specialist support required to assist people into the workplace. The full mention on older workers is below:
"Mr Speaker, in the past, older people were allowed – indeed often encouraged – to drift into permanent unemployment.
We can’t afford to write off this experience.
So we will ensure the over-50s receive specialist and tailored support, to equip them with the confidence and skills needed to get a job.
We also want to encourage those who want to stay working part-time after they reach retirement age and make work pay for everyone, regardless of their age.
To make it easier for those over 65 to receive Working Tax Credit, we will reduce the minimum number of hours they need to work to be eligible.
