Who are Wise Owls?
Wise
Owls is a “not for profit” company which was the UK’s first, and now leading,
over 45s employment and self-employment website. We are based in Hackney, east
London, and can provide one-to-one support to clients across the capital
alongside Internet-based services and support across the country.
We also
specialise in bringing job-seekers aged over 45 together with suitable employers
as well as helping businesses and business start-ups. We are striving to act as
a major voice for the 45 – 65 year old Baby Boomer generation.
Our
website receives over 250,000 hits per month largely from older people looking
for employment. As a “not for profit” company we receive funding from a variety
of different sources and consequently we are involved in a number of different
projects including business consultancy support; advice on, and access to,
finance; provision of training and support as an accredited NVQ centre;
promotion of diversity to businesses; promotion of business advice and best
practice in partnership with ACAS and the Inland Revenue, among others; major
research projects. What all these projects share in common is that they are
aimed at supporting older workers, identifying and addressing employer &
business needs and matching people to jobs.
What can we offer you?
The
majority of people who register with Wise Owls come from a wide range of
backgrounds: From senior executives to cleaners, administrators to drivers. It
is likely that – regardless of your requirements – we will have a client with
the specific skills you are looking for. The three things that all our clients
share in common are: Age, experience and a keeness to get back to
work.
We have helped thousands of clients over our five years of
existence and have over 2,000 registered clients (both in work and seeking work)
and we receive at least 50 new clients a week. As part of our services we
advertise any job vacancies that you place with us on the website and registered
clients can then access information about the vacancy and apply either through
us or directly. We also include your vacancies in our weekly job bulletin which
is circulated to over 400 organisations. We also advertise regularly in targeted
publications as well as regularly featuring on radio and TV as the voice of the
older worker. For employers who wish us to provide a full personnel service, we
personally interview, screen and match potential candidates to your job
specification before putting them forward for interviews. We are happy to act as
your personnel department and seek, interview and recommend clients including,
if you wish, advertising your job for candidates of all ages. The decision as to
who to employ is ultimately yours but you can rest-assured that the candidates
we submit will more than match your expectations.
Our Employment Manager will work with you to find the right person for your vacancy. We will meet with you to analyse the specific requirements of the position and to determine the competencies the right candidate has to meet.
To facilitate the most specific individual match between your organisation and our candidates, we use a state of the art computerised system that matches on the required competencies for the job. Every potential candidate will be screened and undergo all necessary training to ensure they are competent for the relevant job. Our specialised job coach will interview the candidates who best match your profile. The best candidates will be introduced to you for a job interview.
As part of the Train to Gain programme, we offer employees and volunteers of most organisations a wide range of free NVQ training courses. There is no cost to the employer and their staff will gain a recognised qualification. We can provide a free Training Needs Analysis for your organisation, to interested staff to agree what is the best course and the right level for them.
