Care2Work

"A Former Carer is someone who has provided unpaid care looking after their children, grandchildren; partner, grandparents or other relatives who now want to go back to work or start their own business".

Care2Work...
...is a training and employment programme to assist older people who are / have been caring for others and who have been experiencing difficulties in securing suitable paid employment

Care2Work can help you... if you are over 50, economically inactive and looking for employment, but not registered as a jobseeker with Jobcentre Plus, and, are resident in London. So anyone who is receiving Incapacity benefits, Carers allowances, pension credits is retired, on lone parents' benefits or is not claiming or ineligible as their partner is working.

  • Despite the introduction of national legislation to make it illegal to discriminate on the grounds of age there is still widespread ageism particularly in some sectors, despite the fact of skilled labour market shortages in certain sectors. Click for information on your rights.

Care2Work is an innovatory response to overcoming ageism by tackling both the specific needs of the individual (through training and work experience placements) and the attitudes of would be employers. The project is managed by Wise Owls with connections to hundreds of employers, particularly those who have joined Age Positive and who recognise the benefits of employing older workers.

Care2Work is aimed at solving the twin problems in London of under employment for older workers (over 50s) and lack of suitable staff for businesses. All of the research we and others have carried out shows that ‘ageism’ continues to be a barrier to older workers getting the jobs their aptitude, experience, skills, work ethic and commitment deserve.
